1.
Lukla - as the beginning and ending point of the
trek, Lukla is a little bittersweet. You arrive, full of excitement for the
adventure to come. Many days later, you return to the same place, full of great
stories and memories of the journey, but also sad to be leaving. The town itself is beautiful and offers an
unforgettable landing to conclude a very scenic flight. Lukla’ s charm offers both the excitement of
things to come and the satisfaction of completing something truly amazing.
2.
Everest View Hotel – seeing Everest for the
first time was exhilarating. Viewing the highest mountain in the world from a
truly beautiful vantage point made the experience that much better. The outside
seating area at the hotel has a very dramatic backdrop, perfect for seeing some
of the most impressive peaks in the Himalayas. Also, did I mention you can see
Everest from this spot!?
3.
Tengboche - the monastery deserves all the accolades
and credit it receives for its beauty and serenity, but that is not the only
highlight of this village. The morning views of Everest are the second best, in
my opinion, behind Kala Patthar, on the entire route to Base Camp. Before setting off for the day, we watched the
sun’s early rays hit the top of the mountains, including Everest, and the view
was spectacular.
4.
Gorak Shep and Base Camp – once you arrive, you
know you are in a special place. There
is such a tremendous level of energy here, as eager trekkers march off towards
one of the most beautiful and interesting places on Earth.
5.
KalaPatthar - as mentioned earlier, Kala
Patthar is a wonderful place to view Everest and its neighboring mountains. I’ve
been told that sunrise views are the best, but cloudy conditions blocked the
mountains during my early morning climb. So, I climbed it again a little later
in the day, after being assured by fellow trekkers the effort was worth it. The
effort was DEFINITELY worth it!
